Review: The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams

Image
Hi readers!  I had this book in TBR for years and I regret not having read it sooner, but in the end, I don't really regret it because, when Marta told me that Digital Vintage Edizioni  would be bringing it to Italy, I decided to wait for the Italian release. This book fulfilled many of my expectations so I would start by talking about the strengths which, in my opinion, were the worldbuilding and the characters. So, for the review in Italian, please scroll down.  The great city of Ebora once glittered with gold. Now its streets are stalked by wolves. Tormalin the Oathless has no taste for sitting around waiting to die while the realm of his storied ancestors falls to pieces - talk about a guilt trip. Better to be amongst the living, where there are taverns full of women and wine. When eccentric explorer, Lady Vincenza 'Vintage' de Grazon, offers him employment, he sees an easy way out. Even when they are joined by a fugitive witch with a tendency to set things on fire, t...

Hello readers! Today I would like to share my thoughts on Scythe and Pen by A.C. Hobbs. But I have to point out that I read the book in Italian, published by Digital Vintage Edizioni. I would also like to thank the publisher and Marta Suardi, the translator, for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. You can find the Italian review below the English review. Demetrius Raske strikes a deal with the Devil to stop a monster stalking the city, but he may have unleashed another villain entirely… The Capital of the United League of Nations glitters like jewels on a dame’s neck—a city of wicked splendor and possibility. The deals struck in the Senate are as ruthless as the ones struck in the city’s criminal underbelly. No one knows this better than vampire politician Demetrius Raske, who walks both worlds. Demetrius fights for a bill that will grant humans and vampires equal civil liberties. But many citizens don’t share his sentiment, especially after the murd...

Review: Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Image
Today I would like to share with you my opinion of one of my favourite books: Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Fairies. What worked for me was the mix of ingredients that I could relate to because of the similarities in my life. Emily is a researcher with a genuine interest in what she studies, like me, she is accompanied by a dog, like me, she does fieldwork, like me. A curmudgeonly professor journeys to a small town in the far north to study faerie folklore and discovers dark fae magic, friendship, and love in the start of a heartwarming and enchanting new fantasy series. Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world's first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at  people . She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, and the Fair Folk. So when ...
